A Foreigner’s Sentiment
Posted by umleo23 on July 13th, 2012I felt a bit aggravated when I have read something online regarding ANTI-FOREIGNER sentiments of a Local here in Singapore. I felt like i’m unwelcomed, for I did something wrong.
I have been here in Singapore for the past 7 years. I experienced “few” Locals being so rude to me as if I did something wrong. Few told me to go back to my own country! Serve my own Country! Some told me I am not suppose to be here.
Sigh.
“God Bless Po!”, that was my simple response to every single of that rudeness. And by the way that is with respect; “PO” and “OPO” is a Filipino word to give respect to the elderly.
I never think of same way to any Locals here. For me I highly respect them. I respect Locals because I think they really did a great job in maintaining their country well. I have high respect to them, every time I pass by and see the iconic Merlion.
The article I have read regarding “a” local sentiments (which I think, is not at all representing the whole Singapore), is more on racism rather than being more on Nationalism.
Disclaimer, I know a lot of people here in SG are against Foreigners. They might agree with this guy, and some of them don’t but the things mentioned below is purely for this blogger alone.
THIS TIME, its my turn to lambast this guy. This alone is for the guy who posted something and showed the whole world how racist he is. He didn’t even THINK before he CLICK.
So yes you do love your country. Yes you are the Son and Daughter of your Country.
I speak on BEHALF OF MY FELLOW FILIPINO workers here in Singapore, and we are not claming any of that. We won’t claim anything from Singapore. We are here to work hard, and not to show off. We are here because our own Mother Country needs help, and so we are helping in our own small ways. We are here to earn good money not to abide your laws. We are here to enjoy the beauty and not to lambast on it. We are here in our own personal reasons, which is many, and not because we want to take over your country.
Most of us came from THIRD WORLD COUNTRY, but that doesn’t make ALL OF US a bad person. It doesn’t make us a person with NO BRAIN. NO TALENT. NO SKILLS.
I mean come on! Comparing your blog design to mine says it all!
Whatever bad experience you had with one Filipino that made you angry, doesn’t mean all Filipinos are like that. Or with any Foreigner likewise.
We are not claiming that TAGALOG, so you say, must be part of Singapore’s main languages. By the way for your info,Tagalog is a dialect, not the language. Filipino is the right term for language in the Philippines. I think it is better to google first, before you post.
You see, if you have a problem with foreigners, don’t blame it to them, blame it to THE system. I mean, first thing first, we Filipinos won’t be working here if the system doesn’t allow us to. I am not saying that there is something wrong with THE system though. The system seems to be working fine for us. ehehehe I don’t know about YOU.
Lastly, still, I have HIGH respect to Singapore! I LOVE THIS COUNTRY! I respect the Government and the People itself. And as long as I am obeying/following the Government LAW. I don’t have a problem with that.

i know his sentiments and i agree with your own kuya UMLEO. let’s just say that it is common for “locals” to feel aloof, threatened, and malignant with “foreigners” as they see us as competition. i have some aversion with the way foreigners are multiplying like mushrooms on a rainy day in our country, but i would not go and cross the border of being thick-headed to send them out my bansa. come on, locals and foreigners, as long as they have a job, contribute to the country they are staying at and to their mother country. it’s a simple economics, i don’t know why other people dont get it. if they can’t get job because foreigners are getting them, then think of the reason why that’s happening. it’s not because we are ready to settle for anythingless or degrading. it’s because we just want to work. and work we shall.
okay, these are just my two cents. dont crucify me for voicing my opinion.

Haay. If only we could show that that we are good, hardworking, honest people in general.
